Removed/Added some books

All_Hail_Megatron_by_Caliber316 Normally I am not so active in adding/dropping comics.  But, due to my needing to work on my yard, I am attempting to be a bit more frugal.  Here we are.

Dropped

Flash: Rebirth – This title has been given two issues to impress.  Between slow moving plots, Black Flash’s, and my overall lack of love for Flash, I am dropping this sucka.

New Mutants – I liked this book.  I was actually interested in what was going to happen.  But, as I have enough books that I like that I have long runs of, I can’t justify keeping this one if I’m trying to cut back a bit.  Plus I’m not really invested in these characters.  I can always just borrow Jeff’s if I want to stay abreast of the story line :P

X-Men: ForeverAnother book that I had queued up but never got an issue.  I didn’t even read comics in the early 90s so what am I really missing?  DROPPED

Added

Transformers: All Hail Megatron – I have heard nothing but good about this comic.  Transformers comics were my first comics and they started my love of the art form.  They just expanded the series by 4 more issues.  So, I will wait for the trade no longer!  Individual comics 4tw!

Soon To Be Removed If The Volume is Not Pumped

Avengers: The Initiative – I have loved this book for quite some time.  Dark Reign has messed this book up something fierce.  This is a book I keep on nostalgia.  Plus I love Humberto Ramos.  He makes any book I read better.  A:TI also has obscure characters in it. I hope one day to know and love obscure characters, as I’m positive that is what makes one cool.

Justice League – Another month, another sucky book.  Issue 32 was a bomb.  A bomb full of feces.  I have a 32 issue run of this.  Do I drop it now?  Feedback would be nice…

X-Men Legacy - *sigh* I should drop this I know I should.  But I’m not.

Fantastic Four – I haven’t read an issue of this comic that I loved EVER.  But I buy it because to me it feels like the first comic book.  Like if you read comics, you are required to read this one.  I’m not sure where that comes from but there it is.

Countdown 33-32

I just though of another reason I hated Countdown.  The fucking numbering is backward.  Not only is it confusing to read but I have to constantly remind myself when ordering this comic that it’s the opposite of every comic ever created.  So much suck in 52 issues…

8621cfbe-c284-41b3-a614-7a3f64ce9f45

Countdown 33 – Trickster and Piper being easily the best part of the Countdown series again, pull out a one-liner.  After Flash calls Zatanna the rogues look at one another and say, “Mindwipe!”  It’s funny but how on Earth (any of the 52) do the rogues know that Zatanna has been mindwiping people?  Did I miss a series or something?

044fb07f-83f2-49aa-bb71-004171ea23c6

Countdown 32 – This issue featured Black Canary’s Bachelorette Party.  All the female heroes go to a male strip club to watch dudes dressed as Justice League members’ waving their wangs around.  Wondergirl and Supergirl (both under 18 I believe) are there.  And they are trying and (I think) succeed in underage drinking of an alcoholic beverage.  Pomegranate Margaritas to be exact. LOVE IT.   Also Big Barda was featured in 5 panels in this issue.  None of them showed her face.  It truly looked like they went out of their way NOT to draw her face.  Artist must not have had reference material…

Countdown 38-34

Again, I cannot describe to you how much I hated (and still hate) Countdown.  For this reason, it is very unfortunate that I have started my reread reviews in the middle of this series.  I don’t want to write about it because it sucks.  And it’s long.  So, I’m going to change things up a little to get through Countdown.  I’m going to say something nice.  About the Countdown.  The best/funniest part of each book.  Assume every other part of these books is the worst comic moment in my life.  Here we go.

9fd6b4e0-d57e-4ff5-98f5-bf65abbeb655 Countdown 38 – Trickster gets out Flash and Trickster puppets to explain what he and Piper are doing in Gotham.  That’s funny right?  Oh God I’m already failing…

e3a53d4a-82ad-44f6-a3ed-5dacde4809e3

Countdown 37 – In this issue, there is a really hot drawing of Poison Ivy in the Origins section.   (This issue was particularly boring)

508b6516-32c7-42d6-94e9-80c931e3d2d4

Countdown 36 – This issue had two cool things.  One, I like the cover.  Super awesome facial expression on Mary Marvel’s face.  Two, when Jimmy Olsen tries to join the Justice League, Batman says, “Mister Action? *tt* Somebody tell me how this isn’t a massive waste of my time?”  Batman must be reading Countdown too.

67362c42-291e-4186-b733-2216369352eb

Countdown 35 – This issue Jimmy Olsen gets two hickies from Superman on his lower belly.  What?  Heat vision?  Yeah sure it was…

c4ab8889-bd89-4578-9347-f5243c98b553

Countdown 34 – Again, the best spot in this book is a cameo by Batman.  He starts to pick up Trickster and Piper hanging upside down from a building.  Then Flash shows up.  *sigh*

Removed/Added some books

It is inevitable that I start to think about dropping or adding books all the time. I finally got the gumption to do it. I hate dropping books. But some of them have started to suck...and you KNOW they have been sucking if I have decided to drop them. So here's what I dropped/added:

Dropped
Superman - Superman isn't in this book and I am sorely disappointed with Robinson's writing. Rucka's Action is WAY better and yet, still on the edge of the chopping block.
Astonishing X-Men - Warren Ellis and Bianchi destoryed this book. It used to be one of my favorite reads but now it feels like someone aborted on my shoes whenever I read it.
Thunderbolts - I was only buying this for two reasons anyway. 1. Deadpool crossover. 2. I really missed Irredemable Antman.
Unthinkable - No issues have come out yet and frankly, I'd rather save my $3. The preview was good though.

Added
Incredible Hulk - I haven't liked Loeb's and McGuiness' run on Hulk but...it's the only Hulk book out right now. So when it hits 600, I'm picking it up.
Tales of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles - I got the first issue reprint and it was AWESOME! I couldn't resist picking up a few new issues and rewarding Mirage a little for giving me the gift of TMNT.
Transformers Spotlight: Metroplex - Just a Transformers OneShot. When are they going to do a monthly series ???
Blackest Night - God, I'm a sucker. Am I a sucker? Yeah I am.

Soon to Be Removed If The Volume is Not Pumped
X-Men Legacy - This whole Xavier thing has had two of the things I hate in a comic. Flashbacks, and boring. Thankfully, it seems to be returning to it's normal format in a couple issues.
New Mutants - I'm gonna give this about one issue to impress me. I'm only buying it to show Jeff I care about him... :P
Justice League of America - This book is not living up to it's potential at all.  I don't think it ever has, really.  The only thing keeping me on it is the STRONG rumor that Geoff Johns will be taking over very soon.

And that leaves me with this:

X-Men Origins: Wolverine = Fail

I do not dig the new Wolverine movie.  The actual origin of Wolverine was butchered in such a way that it made my poor Comic Book Guy heart cry.  “Worst Wolverine movie EVER”.   They made Sabretooth his brother.  They also tried to make the Weapon X team and had the “brothers” join it voluntarily but Wolverine quit in the first mission cause tx-men-origins-wolverine1hey were killing folks.  Then later in the movie they bring out the other members of the team but they never establish why Wolvie and his ex-teammates are such buddies when they spent about 5 minutes together.  Ugh.  All in all, the character development over all is very very thin.  I wish Marvel would have made this movie instead of Fox.  I also wish that they would stop using the Ultimate Universe for their character developments. Deadpool was the thing I was most looking forward to in this movie.  He was quite funny.  But not nearly long enough.  They gave him swords that come out of his wrists, laser beams from his eyes, and he can teleport.  And took the mouth off of the “Merc with a Mouth”.  Nice work.  Nice frickin work…

ReRead Review: Countdown 41-39

Countdown is perhaps the worst series I ever bought.  I had high hopes.  Paul Dini, weekly comic, just coming off the surprisingly awesome 52, I was ready.  Then I started to buy this abortion of a comic.  I bought into the hype.  I knew the bad from the first issue.  But, I figured it would just start slow.  It kept promising that it was going to have a major bearing on the DC universe.  No, no not really ever.  Eventually I got so far into this series that my OCD would not allow me to stop buying it.  Even though I hated it.  The best thing about 52 were not in this comic: character development.  All the characters in this series are shallow as shallow gets.  Don’t ever read this series.

Coundown 41: This issue, the rogues fall from a plane.  (the rogues storyline being the best in the whole series btw)Jimmy Olson becomes Mr. Action for the first time.  Retarded Jason Todd and his band of merry men go to the Palmer-verse and names his monitor Bob.  Karate Kid almost goes back to the 31st century…then doesn’t.  Harley Quinn and Catwoman Jr. are fake amazons.  Sounds exciting eh?  Too many storylines.

Countdown 40: Repeated bad.

Countdown 39: Repeated bad even worse.

I wish that I hadn’t started doing this review thing while in the middle of Countdown.  But, that’s where fate has brought me.  The Countdown stuff may not be very good, review-wise, but that would be a perfect mirror of how good the series actually was: BAD

I am reading the new Star Wars book, Outcast.  It is pretty dang good.  But, it will keep me from posting the reviews often since, when I’m actually reading a book, I don’t read my back issues.

 Total comics owned: 4172

Party on.

Testing out the Windows Live Writer

Why is it that I pretty much hate every Microsoft product that attempts to be “cool” like Google.  Don’t try to beat google.  Just submit.  To the inevitable4421 pain of death.

In case you are curious, which I’m sure you’re not, here’s the link to download it and try it out yourself.  Windows Live Writer .  I do like the text wrapping feature.  And it is sorta easier to put pictures in.  Could this Live Writer spruce my blog 100_3857up?  Maybe.  All of these things can be done on a regular blogging site.  Since installing it, my computer keeps hiccupping.  I don’t like hiccups.

What a delightfully weird post. :P

Brishmous

My middle daughter Megan decided to say that I am very brishmous this morning.  That caused quite a laugh around the breakfast table.  I asked her what it meant and she informed me.  Here it is.

Brishmous, adj, - stop doing what you're blushing like a gorilla

So there you have it.  I immediately stopped being brishmous and wrote the definition on a piece of paper that went on the fridge.  I plan to implement this strange word in my daily life from now on.

Mission Statement rev. 1

I am doing something that not many people do. I am re-reading all of my comics in alphabetical order. I have something like 2300 books. I can get you an exact number later as I use Comic Collector Live (recommend). The concept started over a year ago when I decided I would reread all my Batman comics. It took me about 2 months. Hmm...wouldn't it be cool to do ALL of them? You bet it would. So I started at 52. I am currently in the middle of Countdown. I still buy new books every week so it slows me down quite a bit and expands continually how much I need to read. I read before bed every night and during the days on weekends. So, every day, I'll post the books I read the previous day with my impressions of said books. It won't be a full fledged review but I will tell you if the book sucked or not and why - leaving out spoilers if possible. I will appreciate any feedback or responses. I am reading new books for the next couple days so the first posts will not be until I finish the new books.

Twitter continued

I may have figured out twitter a bit more. If you actually have followers and people you follow it's sort of fun. Plus you can tie it into your facebook status updates.

twitter

So I just started using Twitter. You would think being a technology guy I would be more up on this. So far, I'm not that down with it. You can do basically the same thing on facebook already. Why have multiple networking sites if you only need one?

So why am I still using Twitter???
